Electrical Infrastructure Maintenance

Project Scope: Increase the maintenance productivity for an electrical utility including preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.

This project represented two experiments. The first was if the last planner system could increase the productivity of projects outside of construction. The second experiment was if a robust planning process could work in an environment designed to respond to unplanned emergencies. During our work we were frequently asked, “How can I plan for the next lightning strike?” A 30% improvement in the amount of tasks completed per week and 15% improvement in crew utilization was the end result of both experiments. Make ready planning and having the people doing the work plan it and coordinate it results in large improvements outside of construction when nature prevents the actual tasks from being planned.
